I hold this truth to be self-evident: Joy is possible, no matter what joy-draining circumstances threaten.

One of the subjects the Bible did not have to address is “Combating Boredom.” Normal life for a Christ follower is outrageous, challenging, unnerving, mind-boggling, knee-rattling, but never boring. That’s not your experience? Maybe you’re still playing in the shallow end. Come on out where it’s deeper. Water wings? You won’t need them. Faith (like hope) floats!

Isn’t that what we all want? When adversity, calamity, tragedy, or disappointment hit us full force, we long to discover how to stay upright, how to do more than tread water, how to be stirred in our depths without being shaken.

“’Til death do us part,” huh? Whoever wrote those words couldn’t have meant physical death, could he? Surely that refers to death of a dream. The end of compatibility. Irreconcilable differences about where to spend our vacation. After more than 35 years in the same canoe with a man who is in some ways my polar opposite, I’ve logged a few travel miles, not all of them smooth sailing. Have I learned anything that might keep other couples like us from capsizing?

Twenty-eight years ago, a visionary woman handed me a business card containing the address of a new-on-the-scene radio station with which she had a business connection. She said, "Send the first broadcast here." At the time, I had no experience, no equipment, no training, no ideas, but I'd just told the Lord I'd follow Him anywhere and do anything He asked of me. So I pocketed the business card and set about learning how to write and produce a radio broadcast. All I had for sure was its name -- THE HEARTBEAT OF THE HOME--and a passion for communicating the truths of God's Word as they apply to everyday life.

Now, more than two decades later, 19 stations carry the broadcast ... every weekday. Check out the Heartbeat of the Home website and meet my radio partner--Jackie.
Writing occupies a great deal of my time. As if I didn't have enough to do, fiction projects call to me as well. As a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers organization, I'm hobnobbing with excellence in hopes some of it rubs off on me.

And as I always say,

"A bad day writing is better than a good day exfoliating...but only by a hair."
